"The Farmhouse Inn plays the city/country act well. It has a one-Michelin star restaurant (the seventh year it’s held the star) and a sophisticated wine list—sommelier Geoff Kruth is the only certified Master of Wine in Sonoma County. But the produce comes from the ranch of owners Catherine and Joe Bartolomei (sister and brother, not husband and wife) just up the road in Forestville, and a quartet of chickens roam the property. (Granted, they live in a peaked-roof house well padded with straw and furnished with a heat lamp.) Then there is that quintessential inn amenity, a house cat. She’s named Charlotte, she’s the password to the WiFi—don’t count on doing a lot of web surfing out here, though—and the hotel guide urges you to resist her urgings to get into your room." |
