Sonoma
County Beaches
Actually a series of
beaches, separated by rocky bluffs, Sonoma Coast State
Beach extends for sixteen miles between Bodega Bay and
Russian Gulch, just north of Jenner. It is accessible
from more than a dozen points along Coast Highway 1. There
are picnic tables at a few of the beach access points,
but generally people like to settle down directly on the
sand or in the dunes.
Goat Rock
is at the northern end of the park. The scenic shoreline,
sandy beach and fresh and saltwater fishing make this
one of the more popular beaches.
Doran Regional Park Located
off Highway 1 on the South side of Bodega Bay, Doran Regional
Park features beach, picninc area, and campground facilities
and a boat launching facility.
Shell Beach
is a favorite of the beachcomber and
stroller. It is used by schools as an outdoor classroom
for the study of tidal pool marine life.
Duncans
Landing, also called Death Rock, is famous for
two things: it was used as an early day landing for loading
small coastal ships with lumber and food products and
its rocky headland is the most dangerous point along
the beach.
