5 MORE REASONS TO VISIT WINE COUNTRY (DO YOU NEED A REASON?)

ROMANTIC VALENTINE'S DAY AT FARMHOUSE INN, SONOMA WINE COUNTRY

FARMHOUSE AND WINE COUNTRY CELEBRATING ALL THINGS ROMANTIC

Russian River Valley

If you haven’t checked your calendar since the New Year, than you may not have realized that Valentine’s Day is less than a month from now. Not to worry - if you haven’t started planning yet...because Farmhouse Inn is declaring the whole month of February as the Month of Romance.  Tell your significant other that you don't want to limit the celebration of your love to a single day- you want to celebrate all month long- then sneak in a little trip to the wine country.
NOW THAT'S ROMANTIC!

10 WAYS TO CELEBRATE ROMANCE IN SONOMA WINE COUNTRY

Sonoma County Wine and Romance

Valentines Day is just around the corner, and for those of you looking to find that perfect romantic getaway, look no further.  Sonoma wine country is the perfect place to sneak away for a romantic lover's retreat, and here at Farmhouse Inn we've become quite the experts at serving up the most romantic meals and special packages available.  So skip the stuffed animal and grocery store red roses (trust us) and let us help you plan the perfect vacation that will sweep your love off their feet!

At Farmhouse Inn, each concierge has become an expert at knowing what works to set the mood for those looking to score some major points in the romance department.  It's not hard to get some of that lovin' feeling when you're staying at one of Wall Street Journal's 10 Coziest Hotels in the United States.  Whether you're snuggled in front of the fire making your own gourmet s'mores in a Heritage Deluxe Room or soaking in a tub with the window open while your partner enjoys the two-sided fireplace from your own private deck amongst the redwoods in a Barn Luxury Room, there is no escaping the romantic atmosphere here at Farmhouse Inn.

Add a Romance Package to your room stay and get a bottle of bubbles, a beautiful bouquet, handmade chocolate truffles and a side-by-side couple's massage at the Farmhouse Spa.  We'll even lend you a little of our magic while you're at your spa treatments and line the bathtub with candles and rose petals, set your champagne glasses and ice bucket along the side, and let you take all the credit! We make sure that each of our guests gets special attention so that no detail goes overlooked in making your getaway absolutely perfect.  This probably has something to do with whyTripAdvisor reviews voted Farmhouse Inn one of the Top 25 Small Hotels in the United States for 2013!

Whether you prefer to enjoy a fireside food and wine pairing at one of our partner wineries, or maybe you're keen to walk on the wild side and want to explore some Wild Jungle Love at Safari West this Valentines Day, we can find exactly what you're looking for!  This year, stop by J Vineyards Bubble Room in Healdsburg for a chocolate ménage à trois with new winery chef Jason LaBue (formerly of our partner property Meadowood Inn).  On the menu for February; oyster chowder croquette, beet risotto with cocoa nibs, braised brisket with gnocchi and black trumpet mushrooms, baby red velvet cake and chocolate "three ways".

Perhaps, though, this all sounds fine and dandy but you're looking for something bigger, grander- the most romantic surprise ever.  Well lucky for you, Farmhouse Inn hosts beautiful, intimate elopements for the couple seeking a moment they can call uniquely their own.  We do everything from finding an officiant and photographer to ordering the cake and the flowers.  All you have to do is show up (bring rings), enjoy a couple's massage and dinner for two at the Farmhouse Restaurant, and when the time comes, say 'I do!'.

FARMHOUSE INN AND OUR MOST ROMANTIC GUESTS...

Julie, Farmhouse Inn concierge

A guest post from Julie,
Romance expert and star concierge at Farmhouse Inn!

"I don’t normally like to write....unless it’s something I am passionate about...and romance is one thing I am most passionate about.

I came to Farmhouse Inn last year to help shoot a video for the their new website.  By the time the video was finished I fell in love with the people, the property, and most of all the great care they take of their guests.  It seems no request is too great and the romance of the wine country is threaded through everything they say and do. I found this hidden gem hidden away just minutes from my Healdsburg home and so wanted to be a part of their great team and share the philosophy of the Inn....they hired me four days later to join their Concierge team.  By the way, if you haven't seen it here is the Farmhouse video and you can find me in a few of the shots if you are looking...

In a world sometimes full of doom and gloom – the Farmhouse Inn is full of smiling faces and wonderful people.   Each and every guest that I speak to on the phone or have the pleasure to meet in person makes me smile.  They seem so happy and are excited and eager to spend their wine country vacation or special celebration with us here at the Farmhouse.

Being able to assist guests with their itinerary is probably the most fun and rewarding part of my job.  Sonoma County is such an amazing place to live and  we love to share it's charms with our guests. I am a hopeless romantic and want each and every person that visits with us to leave here with the very best experience possible.

TINY WEDDINGS AT FARMHOUSE INN...OUR TAKE ON ROMANCE!

Meghan, Wedding and romance Concierge

A very special message from our romance specialist at Farmhouse Inn
Meghan Smith,
our elopement and wedding coordinator
 (and concierge extraordinaire).

Despite the trend of grandiose, Martha Stewart-esque weddings that have persisted for the last 10 years, here at Farmhouse Inn we have given all that up and prefer to offer couples a more intimate option.  We think romance is personal, and with each of our "tiny weddings" we see that theory proved time and time again.  The story each couple has is what makes each Elopement special.  Whether it is a late-in-life love, an instant connection or a long friendship that grew over time, each story is unique.

It is my job/pleasure to help couples plan their elopement to the wine country here at Farmhouse Inn.  While the package was created to be simple and straightforward it doesn’t lack the special details and each couple puts their own spin on it.  From our cakes made by Patisserie Angelica, to the bouquets from local florist Atrellis, each detail is important and unique.  The elopement package covers all the basics and a few extra details but I have yet to host a couple who has been “typical”.  The package provides couples with what they need to get married, but each story is so different that every wine country elopement at Farmhouse is special and unique.  We tell couples all they need is the ring and a dress and we take care of the rest.  But every bride and groom have added their own special touches that have created a memory for us here at Farmhouse too...

My very first Farmhouse elopement was with Marcia Ann and Randy last November.  The couple was from Texas and each already had grown children with families of their own.  They found each other later in life and after a whirlwind romance of only 2 months, Randy whisked Marcia Ann to Farmhouse Inn for a tiny wedding all their own. (You know, he originally thought he would just bring her and surprise her once they got to Farmhouse but we had to tell him it might not be good...she would need a dress and things to make their day truly special.  Romantic- yes!  Wise- maybe not?!) Their ceremony was the first that has ever had me sniffling and I had only met them 2 days before.  We all fell a little bit in love with the both of them and look forward to seeing them in November when they come back to celebrate their anniversary.

While Marcia Ann and Randy made us cry, we have couples that make us laugh too.  Most recently we had the pleasure of meeting Teena and Wayne.  Both from Las Vegas, we found it a little ironic that they were eloping but chose to do so in the romantic Wine Country instead of their hometown.  Teena and Wayne had photographer Kate Nagel come out to do their photos and she captured some amazing moments.  Our favorites though are of Teena and Wayne jumping into the pool.  Yes, you read that correctly.  We refer to "tying the knot" and "taking the plunge"...they definitely took the plunge-literally!  Teena went for it in her dress and full hair and makeup and Wayne took off his shoes and jacket before making a splash.  The fun they had (they also did the classic cake-in-the-face moment) made everyone’s week and anytime we need to lighten up we just look at these photos.

Randy and Marcia Ann have a story that struck a chord with all of us who had the pleasure of working with them, as all of our couples do.  We continue to get a thrill with each new wedding we host and every time someone proposes in the restaurant and when we check in the couples celebrating anniversaries.

These occasions are so personal and it is our good fortune to be a part of these moments.
While we don’t disagree with the classic icons of romance (just ask us and we’ll gladly put a bottle of champagne with some truffles in your room),
we understand that there is no one-size fits-all version of romance.

Chocolate bonbons, a chilled bottle of champagne and a Sandra Bullock chick flick. Sounds exactly like a romantic evening to me. These icons of romance endure because we love them. And while the word “elope” often brings to mind a Las Vegas ceremony with an Elvis minister, at Farmhouse we want you to think of something else. The classic icons evoked when you hear the word “romance” (Miss Bullock and bonbons) should be the same things that pop to mind when you hear the word “elope” (sorry Elvis). Add to those images a romantic dinner for two in the Farmhouse restaurant, a couples massage and a very personal ceremony and you’ll come close to what an elopement at Farmhouse Inn means.

                                             Ahhh...Romance!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WINE COUNTRY CONCIERGE

Erin, Farmhouse concierge

I would like to introduce you to our newest concierge.  Erin Hartman is a recent addition to the Farmhouse Inn concierge team.  She came to us with some inn and hotel experience but was a little amazed about the layers of service and luxury offered here at Farmhouse Inn and how much planning goes into the personalized itineraries we set up for our guests and their perfect wine country vacation. I asked her for a contribution for this week's Wine Country Blog so here's Erin... and thoughts about her new position.

SONOMA WINE COUNTRY WILDLIFE ADVENTURES

Safari west baby

I was reviewing some of the previous Wine Country Blog posts and you must think we do nothing but eat and drink...and eat and drink and...here in the Sonoma wine country. Here at Farmhouse Inn we do seem to focus on those activities but there is quite a lot more to do in Sonoma County. The Russian River (canoeing, kayaking, fishing) runs right through the valley out to the Sonoma Coast.  Armstrong Redwoods (and trail riding through the park) is right down the road. Farmers Markets and farms galore, museums (Charles Schulz, anyone?), skydiving, ziplining...what is your pleasure?

Spring is just around the corner (after we get through the St. Patrick's Day celebrations) and that brings Easter - my grandgirls are coming to visit.  I bribed them with a trip to one of Sonoma County's most precious treasures...a visit to Safari West - maybe even on Easter Sunday for the Hunt for the Hare"Every once in a while Danielle (age 12) expresses an interest in being a veterinarian and is interested in all things scientific.  And Jessica (age 10) is an extremely good student and curious about everything- I think they would both get lot out of a Safari Adventure at the animal preserve. It may not be Africa, but it's close! The animals are running free around your safari jeep allowing for a certain amount of interaction with the animals.  These pictures will tell the story.

Baby crane? or?

Can you guess what some of the babies above are?  Some are obvious but for better pictures and descriptions you should visit the Safari West Facebook page (and become a fan while you are there).
In case you are wondering how close you can get to the animals...when you go out on the Safari Adventure tour you actually drive around looking for the animals and almost anything can happen.

Had enough romance?

Taking a little break from it myself but I promise by the end of this post to share a little Sonoma wine country romance with you to wrap up Valentine's and all the romantic furor from last week.
