Wine Country Blog: INNsights to the Wine Country

Posted by Joe Bartolomei on February 15, 2014

At the Farmhouse Inn we are lucky to work with some truly great partners that make every visit to the wine country an amazing experience.  From our Winery Partners to our Spa Team, and our favorite bicycle guide and transportation company, the Farmhouse Inn has cultivated some of the best relationships in Wine Country.  If you haven’t stayed with us yet or you have an upcoming reservation we hope that you get to meet some of these people and that you have the chance to indulge in the wonderful experiences we have to offer in Sonoma County.  We decided that it would be a good idea to tell you a little bit about each of them. And if you’re looking to book any of these experiences don’t hesitate to contact a Farmhouse Inn Concierge; we’re happy to share some of secrets of the wine country with you!

Gary Farrell Winery

Our Winery Partner program began several years ago when we realized that certain of our favorite wineries provided an excellent experience for our guests in addition to producing amazing wines. Some of our Winery Partners have been on the list from the beginning, but we also have added a few new additions to keep the list fresh. New to the partner list is Gary Farrell Winery, just five minutes from the Farmhouse Inn. Gary Farrell specializes in single-vineyard Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. We love them for their stunning views of the Russian River Valley, stellar customer service and delicious fireside wine and cheese offering.

Red Car Wines

Another new partner is Red Car Wines.  Red Car has taken over part of the Dutton Goldfield property in Graton (where Ace Cider used to be). They make coastal Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Syrahs from California’s cooler regions. We love their fun tasting room, exuberant staff and artful wine labels. We have 10 other partners, all of whom are wonderful and we are proud to work with. You can find the complete list on our website with links to each of the winery websites. If you have any questions about the partners, our program or would like to setup a tour give us a call, send us an email or message us on Facebook.

Farmhouse Inn Spa

Our Spa is run by the fabulous team of Francis and Alexander. They do a brilliant job of developing custom treatments for Farmhouse Inn guests, as well as providing a thoroughly relaxing atmosphere. If we had to pick just one- our favorite treatment is "Catherine’s Favorite". This massage is a combination of a massage, scalp treatment and a foot scrub. The 90 minutes goes by much too quickly so we keep coming back for more. A new offering from our Spa team is the Pedal to Wellness Package- this is a guided bike tour with lunch followed by two Wellness Solution massages in the Spa. If you’re looking for a healthy indulgence;  this package might be the ticket. Click here for a Spa Menu and click here for more information on the Pedal to Wellness add-on package.

The guided bicycle tour in the Pedal to Wellness package is provided by our favorite bicycle guide, Dave Brazell.  Adventures in CyclingDave runs Adventures in Cycling and offers guests a variety of guided tours or if you don’t want to do a tour, we can also arrange to have bikes delivered to the Farmhouse Inn for you. One of our favorite tours with Dave is the Westside Pinot Tour. With stops at some of our favorite wineries including Arista and VML, the tour includes a picnic lunch provided by Dave. Dave customizes every tour- whether you’re a novice or an experienced rider, Dave will find the right ride for you. Dave does need some notice for both tour and rental bookings, so be sure to contact your Concierge in advance if you want to experience Wine Country on two wheels.

We try not to play favorites, but we truly do love Steve and his company, Silver Service Tours. Steve provides Farmhouse Inn guests with the ultimate Sonoma Wine Country experience. Driving around Sonoma’s best back roads in his Mercedes or the LR4 (for those like a little off-roading with their wine tour) is a must-do for visitors to the Russian River Valley. Steve and his team are knowledgeable, friendly and in our opinion, the best at what they do. The Spring Mountain Tour in the LR4 is one of our favorite of the packaged offerings, but just like Adventures in Cycling, each tour is customizable. Silver Service Tours has limited availability due to having only 4 vehicles available- their ability to provide personal customer service and to customize each tour is just one of the many reasons we love them.

San Francisco and Sonoma, a Perfect Pairing for a Romantic Weekend

Northern California will always hold a special place in my heart.  When my hubby & I began dating it was the first destination we visited as a couple, and more importantly, the very first of many road-trips we’ve since taken together.  I’ll never forget that scenic drive, from the vineyards of Napa Valley, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and all the way down the picturesque coast to San Louis Obispo.  I was especially excited to go back for a visit, and I must say that our trip back to the area did not disappoint.
