Sweet Sonoma Summer...where are you?
Graduations, weddings, outdoor events all scrambling because a February/March-like storm is coming in for the weekend. It is winter in June - we don't get rain in June! Rain, wind, thunderstorms, even snow in Lake Tahoe. Skiing, anyone? And here at Farmhouse Inn we had to put away the pool cushions and distribute the umbrellas to the rooms - AGAIN!!
The Annual Forestville Youth Park Parade and Barbeque has been rescheduled to next weekend. The Healdsburg Jazz Fest will open as planned but has had to move a couple of outdoor events to a new venue. The Rohnert Park Farmer's Market opening night is cancelled but they will be there next Friday night.
But some events will happen come heck or high water! Get out your umbrellas and enjoy...
The 17th annual Art at the Source Tour is on featuring 153 artists in 84 studio locations, and the diversity includes painters, sculptors, potters, jewelers, photographers, glass, wood and fiber artists.
There is something for everyone to explore and enjoy. A great opportunity as you don't often get to see inside the artists' studios or see them at work. Pick up a program/map here at the Farmhouse Inn.
My neighbor is one of the artists showing - I will have to dash between the rain drops. Carolyn Horan will have at least 3 artists showing at her studio...thank goodness she has a nice sized garage.
Here she is working away. She is doing a Raku firing demo all 4 days of the tour at 4 pm. See you this weekend, Carolyn - I love the little pot I bought from you last time.
I hear the Russian River Rodeo is on- rain or shine...can you imagine doing this in the mud? It is out in Duncan's Mills and you might be able to see some of the action from one of the restaurants out there.
I think next weekend the weather has got be nicer so we can start on all those summer activities we have been waiting for. The weather was so nice just this last Sunday (after a rainy Saturday) I was able to barbeque as planned (after a wonderful hike in the redwoods with my grandgirls). Now I feel really lucky it worked out nicely.
Tuesday is the first Concert in the Plaza- The free concert in the Healdsburg Plaza goes on every Tuesday from June through August. Just bring a low chair or blanket, visit the food booths, and hang out.
Next weekend is the Harmony Festival at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. Here's a sneak peek...
Harmony Festival 2011 from Harmony Festival on Vimeo.
Next Thursday is Peggy Sue's All-American Cruise. Sonoma County's largest car show, including the Horseless Carriage, the restored Vintage and Antique cars and trucks, street stock and street modified. Hotrods, Roadsters and Customs that not only take you back in time but shows the workmanship and dedication it takes to recreate any one of these classic cars or trucks. Bring your camera- Cruise In on Thursday and don't miss the Chili & Pasta cookoff.
Cloverdale starts their Friday Night Live on June 10th with Tommy Castro.
My personal favorite, Windsor Summer Nights on the Green starts June 16th, every Thursday through August. They have "Gator Beat" playing in July...I definitely will make that one. Again, just bring a low chair or a blanket, they have a Farmer's Market, a wine booth (of course), and some wonderful street food.
Ahhh... Sweet, Sweet Sonoma Summer - I can't wait!
What are your plans for the summer? I hope you have a visit to our beautiful Sonoma Wine Country on the agenda.
