YES, IT IS OFFICIALLY SUMMER...ALL WEEK HAS BEEN ABOVE 80 DEGREES AND A COUPLE OF DAYS ABOVE THE 90 DEGREE MARK. THE FARMHOUSE INN GUESTS HAVE ALL BEEN HANGING OUT BY THE POOL AND CHARLOTTE AND JASPER (THE KITTIES) ARE FOUND IN ANY SHADY SPOT. THAT'S A SHOT OF JASPER THAT BRANDON, OUR BELLBOY JUST SHOT THIS EVENING. OUR GUESTS KIND OF HAVE THAT LOOK TOO CAMPED OUT IN THE LOUNGE CHAIRS.
JANA HAS BEEN OUT WATERING SOMETHING IN THE GARDENS EVERYDAY - THE DRIP SYSTEM JUST CAN'T KEEP UP. I FEEL HER PAIN...I HAVE BEEN WATERING SOMETHING AT MY PLACE EVERY NIGHT AND EVERY MORNING AND STILL SEE SOME WILTING.
AND TOMORROW PROMISES TO BE EVEN HOTTER...TIME TO BREAK OUT THE MARGARITAS OR THE ROSE´.
I am thinking tomorrow would be a good day to go down to Burke's Canoes , rent a canoe, and drift down the Russian River with a picnic and swimsuits (and sunscreen).
Doesn't this look inviting - beaches all along the river to stop and take a dip. Nice way to cool off. Luckily we don't get this much heat on a regular basis and no humidity which is the real killer. (No big bugs either, for you southerners).
The Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Classic is very early in the day so that is the perfect start to the day before the heat hits. It's just up the road in Windsor and a few special shapes are sure to be there. I go just about every year - missed them last year while the location was getting a face lift and a couple of years it was too foggy for liftoff but this year promises to be picture perfect.
Get up early and come out to meet "Sushi" and the "Purple People Eater". Say Hi! to our friend Mike from Up and Away.
I so love driving to work in the morning and seeing the sky dotted with the hot air balloons. Love to imagine the quiet (you really don't feel any wind at all) in between the bursts of the hot air and that bird's eye view of the wine country just can't be beat.
Summer time in the wine country is just so full of events that it is hard to do it all. I went to the Music on the Plaza in Healdsburg on Tuesday (saw Gator Beat) and then again more music at the Summer Nights on the Green in Windsor (The Bell Brothers) on Thursday. All summer long...some kind of music event somewhere. Keep an eye on the Farmhouse Inn Events Calendar for current information.
And of course, we must not forget that this weekend is Father's Day and we have to find ways to be cool with our cool Dads...If this weekend is all about Dad try the Balloon Fest and then perhaps the canoeing or if he's a Jazz fan (and doesn't mind the heat) then there's the Jazz Festival down in Cotati this Saturday. This weekend is also the Classic Car Cruise In at B.R. Cohn, a great event , right up Dad's alley! Cars, oysters, music, and of course, wine!
Happy Father's Day to all you Dad's out there and I leave you with Miss Charlotte demonstrating a great way to spend Father's Day!
Our kitties...they know how to live!
