It’s a Great Museum, Charlie Brown

January 06, 2020

If you’ve ever thumbed through a newspaper here in the U.S. and glanced for even a moment at the comics section, then you’ve encountered Peanuts, the lovable gang that includes Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Pig Pen, Peppermint Patty, and of course, everyone’s favorite beagle, Snoopy. During your stay here in Forestville, we invite you to take a fifteen-minute drive over to the neighboring town of Santa Rosa, where you can relive fond childhood memories at the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center. The renowned creator of Peanuts, Schulz is one of the most beloved cartoonists in the world, and the museum bearing his name is devoted to preserving and promoting his legacy for years to come. In addition to its extensive collection of Schulz’s own work, the museum boasts many other delightful and impressive exhibits, including a life-size recreation of Schulz’s personal studio, where he spent countless hours drafting new comic strips; Japanese artist Yoshiteru Otani’s larger-than-life wood sculptures depicting Snoopy in all his canine glory, as he changed in ways subtle and not-so-subtle across the decades; and many meticulously curated displays that help contextualize Peanuts as both a product of and profound influence on its unique historical moment.
