• Happy Thanksgiving

    November 23, 2021

What a difference a year makes. I can't believe that a year ago right now we were starting to prepare ourselves for yet another shutdown. Now here we are, wrapping up arguably the busiest year we've ever had. And while there were a lot of headaches this last year, there's certainly so much to be thankful for! In honor of Thanksgiving, I thought I would take a moment to reflect upon all the things that we are thankful for!... Read more

  • Charlotte

    May 19, 2021

Over our 20 years at Farmhouse, we've had so many incredible team members come and go, many are still with us today, some have gone on to bigger and better places, and we've lost a few along the way. This spring, we lost one of the best, an absolute all-star, Charlotte, our black house cat. In remembrance, I thought this would be a good opportunity to retell the story of how Charlotte came to be our house cat and remember some of our greatest Charlotte moments over her 12 years of service to Farmhouse.... • Looking Back: Celebrating Twenty Years of Farmhouse

    February 08, 2021

February 14, 2001, will mark our 20th anniversary since we bought Farmhouse Inn. While it may have been Valentine’s day, there was nothing romantic about that day—it was just the day that a very long and challenging escrow closed. Little did we know how serendipitous it was, as Farmhouse became known as such a romantic destination.... Read more

  • Autumn’s In The Air

    September 13, 2020

It's been far too long since I've sat down and written a blog. It’s not from lack of trying, I keep thinking next week will be quieter and I'll have plenty of time to be creative and come up with interesting stories to share. I’ve literally started writing this 20 times only to be pulled away.  It’s the story of my life these days… But the reality is, this summer really has been nuts!  ... Read more

    September 12, 2019

Since the Inception of Farmhouse, we have always dreamt of the day when we could have a gathering spot for our guests, for our friends, for our team. • Cottage Remodels

    August 13, 2019

If you've been to Farmhouse and we've crossed paths, it doesn't take long for anyone to figure out that what I love more than anything is architecture and building. Over our 18 years at Farmhouse, I've been fortunate enough to oversee all of our numerous remodels and construction projects - some huge, some tiny - but every project I have loved! ... Read more

  • Cannabis, a long history of cultivation in Sonoma County

    July 01, 2019

It’s funny really. Hanging in my dining room is the framed letter that was sent to my great-grandfather, requiring that he “cease and desist” the growing of grapes intended for wine, and the making of wine. Prohibition had arrived.... Read more

I have to say, one of the best things about living in Sonoma County is that you never run out of fun or interesting things to do. Here at Farmhouse, we pride ourselves on staying on top of all the best activities for our guests and this takes a lot a lot of field trips (oh poor us, it’s grueling)! ... Read more

  • Summer Beginnings

    May 09, 2019

I’m sitting in my office, at Farmhouse, looking out the window at the rose bushes, already approaching full bloom and the fruit trees, all covered in blossoms. The butterflies are beginning to arrive. It’s April 24th, but it’s been in the high 80’s for 3 days, and today is shaping up to be a similarly gorgeous day. ... Read more

  • Hiking in Wine Country

    April 24, 2019

Every day I get to meet amazing people from all over the world here at Farmhouse and they always say to me “I wish I got to live the life you live.” I always reply, “I don't think you really do; I don't live the life you think I do!” I'm a busy guy, and when I have any free time, I'm not often found tasting wine or visiting the hottest new restaurants in the area. ... • Spring is Near

    March 15, 2019

Even though I live in Northern California, and by all accounts we have mild winters, every year right around now I start to go a little stir crazy. I know Spring is on the horizon, but this year it's been especially wet, grey and rainy, I feel like winter is never going to end. ... Read more

Every single bit of it.... Read more

  • Farmhouse Family Holiday

    December 01, 2018

People are forever asking me, how and why did we purchase Farmhouse anyway?  I mean a sister/brother team, purchasing a run-down Bed and Breakfast?  Whaaat was up with that.  I know, we sometimes ask ourselves the same thing.  But the answer is always the same. ... Read more

  • Autumn in Sonoma

    October 15, 2018

Autumn has arrived in Sonoma County. The grapes are almost entirely harvested, and the vines are beginning their winter dormancy. • The Gentlewoman Farmer

    October 02, 2018

Over the years, many times by many people, I have been called a “Gentleman Farmer”. To be honest, I don’t like that name. To me, it sounds like something rich people do - hiring other people to do the work - and that’s just not my style.... Read more

  • The Story of Lost & Found Wine

    September 10, 2018

August has got to be the craziest month of the year for me. I say that about May, too. And December…But really, a lot happens in August – my kids go back to school which brings on a million school-related activities, both the boards I’m on come back in session after a summer sabbatical, it’s one of the busiest travel months of the year at Farmhouse, and, if not enough, the grape harvest looms on the horizon. Usually for pinot noir still wines we would be harvesting already, but an unusually cool stretch this August has slowed things down giving the fruit a little bit more hang time and, hopefully, a little bit more flavor profile (and me a moment of much-needed breathing room to finally finish my August blog!). Our world here in the Russian River Valley revolves around the seasons of the vineyard and currently, harvest dominates our thoughts. With that in mind, I thought it’s appropriate to talk a little about our winery, Lost & Found.... Read more

  • The Story of Farmhouse

    April 30, 2018

Catherine and I purchased Farmhouse back in 2001, 17 seasons ago - it's been an evolution, it's been a process, it's quite frankly been a roller coaster ride. The number one question we get asked about, and something that we've told a million, times is our story, the story of Farmhouse.... Read more
