Sonoma Innkeepers remember...

Flag waving America

Though the normal summer activities continue here in the Sonoma Wine Country...(we are deep into the harvest now and there are some fun events planned this weekend) I did want to mention this 10th anniversary of 9/11.  We all have memories of that day...the original horror, the tragic losses, the loss of confidence and perhaps naivite of the American public. It was a life changing day for us all and we will always mourn those we lost. This weekend the flags will be flying and there are many events to commemorate the event. Here is a link to a recent interview with one of the firefighters that day.  Read it please.

Endless Summer in Sonoma County

Benziger Endless Sonoma Summer

I have seen so many headlines lately referring to the end of summer...We are not ready for that here in Sonoma wine country...grape harvest is just getting started, the tomatoes are just ripening, saw our first apples and pears come in recently.  No "Last Sips of Summer", "Summer Winding Down", "Back to Reality" or any of that stuff for us here at Farmhouse Inn. The Farmer's Markets are still crazy with good stuff - abundance and bounty everywhere. The Farmstands are overflowing... still time for a canoe ride down the Russian River and...my creek still is flowing strong (It is usually dry by summer's end). Our weather in California stays great all through October.

Sonoma County- It's the cheesiest...

So many of our guests here at Farmhouse Inn have a fascination with cheese... must be all those "happy cow" commercials they see- we are getting more and more requests for farm tours and questions on where to go see "cheese making" in action.

The Farmhouse Inn Scene This Week.. Wine Country Tiny Weddings

Elopement to Farmhouse Swenson

This last week has been a bit crazy here at the Farmhouse Inn (you might say- situation normal!). We had scheduled a photo shoot for our very first video for this week.  Which sounds crazy- who wants to do something like that in our busy season?  But we wanted to include the Bartolomei family ranch and gardens (where Chef Stevo gets some of the produce for the restaurant) and they don't look like too much until later in the season when everything is growing like mad!

Sonoma County and Farmhouse gardens -great places to find plants!

Farmhouse Inn Garden

I had such a busy week this week (the grandgirls came up for the holiday- we tried out my new firepit and watched the fireworks over the Russian River) - I did not put shovel to dirt even once...have some making up to do this weekend.

Farmhouse Celebrations...wine country style!

Elopement at Farmhouse

This week has been focused on celebrations here at Farmhouse Inn...we are all focused on the national celebration of Independence Day but our guests are always celebrating something.  This week we had 3 honeymoon couples in the house...you ought to hear the concierges waxing poetic about each and every one.

Trip advisor reviews

I was talking to Ozzy, our newest concierge the other day.  He came to us from a large hotel over in the Napa Valley.   He asked me the one question that comes up over and over..."How did you get into innkeeping?" (My business partner would reply "Temporary insanity!)  What type of person wants to be an innkeeper anyway?   It is extremely hard work day in and day out but we all love it!  I had a conversation with a fellow innkeeper yesterday and she was frustrated with trying to keep up with the new marketing possibilities, keeping the website current, getting our arms around this whole social media thing, and now we have to go mobile too?!  Geez- we used to just have to worry about what to fix for breakfast.

Wine Country this week...Taste of Alexander Valley, Airplanes, Oysters and Belly Dancing!

Sonoma Backroad Challenge

How's that for a headline?  Sure hope that peaked your curiosity a little. Another busy weekend in Sonoma's Wine Country and it is still not even summer!

Inn the Wine Country- Ideas for April anyone?

Sunce Bocce Ball

Question in my mind...there is so much going on in April - should I tell you all about it or just a simple calendar of events?  Or maybe a little short story from the Farmhouse Inn concierge team.  Here goes...
